Kurzfilmprogramm OF

From Queertactics

We are absolutely thrilled to present a program featuring selected 16mm works by Barbara Hammer in conjunction with the Austrian premiere of Brydie O’Connor’s BARBARA FOREVER. Barbara Hammer’s filmmaking career spans half a century; from her early 16mm works in the late 1960s to her more documentary and experimental video works in the late 2010s, Hammer’s unwavering—indeed, unconditional—interest lay in representing lesbian and trans ways of life on the big screen. We ran into Barbara Hammer at the Berlinale every few years—though quite regularly—usually in long lines outside the Arsenal Kino. We all wanted to see new (queer_)feminist experimental works. Barbara Hammer was always in an incredibly good mood. Many of her films are driven by this cheerful spirit, which were made in the 1970s and 1980s. As a cinematic celebration of lesbian desire and feminist emancipation, many of her works are now part of the canon of queer film and cinema history. With our 16mm screening, we want to bring them back to life in their originally intended form—queer-feminist guerrilla cinema, so to speak. We are already so very excited!
