What happens when the applause stops? In Eivind Landsvik’s quietly affecting debut feature, the collapse of a promising music career becomes the starting point for a far more intriguing journey: an encounter with boredom, vulnerability and the emptiness of ordinary life. Returning to her childhood home outside Oslo following a breakdown, young musician Maja finds herself suspended between a public identity she can no longer inhabit and a future she cannot yet imagine. Indie-pop artist Marie Ulven Ringheim, aka Girl in Red, brings rare authenticity to the role, conveying exhaustion, uncertainty and resilience through the smallest of gestures. Rather than dramatising crisis, Landsvik explores the difficult spaces that follow it, observing the slow rhythms of recovery with tenderness. Andreas Bjørseth’s luminous 16mm cinematography lends warmth and texture to everyday environments, transforming suburban streets and family interiors into landscapes of emotional discovery. Balancing melancholy with understated humour, the film finds grace in fleeting encounters, friendships and moments of connection. Gentle yet perceptive, LAVE FORVENTNINGER suggests that learning to stand still may be life’s most valuable lesson. (Maria Giovanna Vagenas)
