Mare Sapiens
From Viennale
In the Bay of Marseille, an octopus, almost invisible, extricates itself from the ocean floor and slides away. Underwater connections emerge subtly: the membranes of ecological restoration tents and a fish farm net; a lobster and the clawlike appendage of a machine sampling industrial waste. Meanwhile, two bands of mysterious green light converge in infinity. And throughout, the chugging, churning and hissing sounds of boat engines above; mechanical whirrings and clangings; and the sea’s gurgling, bubbling, fizzing and other noises that land dwellers don’t have words for.
